What Is Ascended Heroes?
Released 30 January 2026, Mega Evolution Ascended Heroes is the first special expansion in the Mega Evolution Series, and it's a monster. The set packs over 290 cards, dwarfing the leaner ~130-card sets that came before it. It celebrates the stars of Scarlet & Violet while riding the Mega Evolution wave tied to Pokémon Legends: Z-A.
Inside you'll find 13 Mega Evolution Pokémon ex, 6 Stellar Tera Pokémon ex, 20 additional Pokémon ex, and more than 30 Trainer cards. For anyone building a master set, Pokémon Ascended Heroes cards give you far more to chase than a typical expansion, with layers of illustration rares, ultra rares, and premium secrets to track down.
The Megas and Trainer's Pokémon
Mega Dragonite ex is the headline act, but it's got serious company. Mega Gengar ex, Mega Gardevoir ex, Mega Lucario ex, Mega Charizard Y ex, and the Johto Mega starters (Mega Meganium ex, Mega Emboar ex, and Mega Feraligatr ex) all feature, plus Megas like Diancie, Hawlucha, Scrafty and Froslass.
What sets this expansion apart is the return of Trainer's Pokémon. N, Team Rocket, Lillie, Steven, Marnie, Erika and Larry all bring signature cards to the table, such as Team Rocket's Mewtwo ex, Lillie's Clefairy ex, N's Zoroark ex and Steven's Metagross ex. It's this crossover of Mega power and beloved Trainer pairings that makes Pokémon Mega Evolution Ascended Heroes stand out from the pack.
New and Returning Rarities
Ascended Heroes introduced the Mega Attack Rare, Mega Evolution Pokémon ex that display their attack names in Japanese katakana for a bold, unmistakable look. Above those sit the ultra-rare Mega Hyper Rare cards, with monochrome, gold-etched artwork in which the Pokémon almost disappears into the design. There are only two in the whole set, and they're brutally hard to pull.
Round that out with 22 Special Illustration Rares, 33 Illustration Rares and 14 ultra rares, and you've got one of the most rewarding rarity ladders in modern Pokémon TCG.
Chase Cards Worth Hunting
When browsing Pokémon Ascended Heroes online, a few cards command the room. Mega Gengar ex and Pikachu ex Special Illustration Rares consistently top the set's value charts, with the Mega Dragonite ex SIR close behind. Its soft pinks and blues make it one of the most gorgeous cards in the expansion.
The Mega Charizard Y ex and Mega Dragonite ex Mega Hyper Rares round out the elite tier, prized as much for their scarcity as their looks. Prices move fast, so it pays to check current market value before you buy.
Why Buy Singles?
Ascended Heroes booster packs were never sold in traditional booster boxes. Packs arrived through specialty products, like Tech Sticker Collections, Elite Trainer Boxes, Mini Tins, Premium Poster Collections, Booster Bundles and dedicated Mega ex Boxes. That distribution, paired with tough pull rates, means gambling on sealed product to land a specific card gets expensive fast.
Buying Pokémon Ascended Heroes singles skips the lottery entirely. Want the Mega Gengar ex SIR or a specific Trainer's Pokémon for your deck? Grab exactly that, for fair market value, without cracking a dozen packs and hoping.
Building With Ascended Heroes Cards
Most Mega decks run both the Basic Pokémon ex and its Mega Evolution, so plan your counts and energy carefully. Megas hit hard but give up extra prizes when knocked out, so healing and switch options keep them alive longer. The new 2025–2026 Mega Evolution Series is Standard legal, making these cards immediately relevant at the table.
